Therma-Tru Door Installation: The South Miami Owner’s Guide

Therma-Tru door installation in South Miami typically runs $850 to $2,400 installed, depending on whether we’re swapping hardware on an existing slab or hanging a full pre-hung unit. We stock the most common Therma-Tru replacement parts on our trucks, and we complete most door installations the same day we arrive. Here’s what usually brings homeowners to us: a door that suddenly drags against the threshold, a deadbolt that won’t throw, or weatherstripping that’s peeling away and letting South Miami humidity pour into the house. You notice the door works harder than it used to, or it doesn’t work at all, and you’re wondering whether to patch it or replace it. That’s where we come in.

We’re Winslow Windows & Doors, an independent Therma-Tru installer based right here in the area, not a factory branch or national franchise. Ed Winslow has been installing and replacing Therma-Tru doors across South Miami since 2011, and we carry authorized replacement parts for the full fiberglass door lineup. We also stock parts for PGT, CGI, and CWS door systems if you’ve got mixed brands on the house.

Which Therma-Tru Models This Applies To

Therma-Tru builds three fiberglass door lines we see most often in South Miami: the Classic-Craft series (their top seller, with the deep wood-grain moldings), the Smooth-Star series (a flat, clean face that takes paint well), and the Pulse series (the newer line with improved energy numbers). We install and service all three. Most Therma-Tru doors carry a label on the hinge edge of the slab with the model name and manufacture date; if that label is painted over or missing, we identify the series by measuring the door’s thickness and the corner joint construction.

One compatibility gotcha that trips up South Miami homeowners: Therma-Tru door slabs are not interchangeable with standard hardware-store pre-hungs. The hinge mortises and the threshold system are cut to Therma-Tru’s specs, so a generic slab from the big box will never seat correctly in a Therma-Tru frame. That’s the number-one reason we get called in after a failed DIY attempt. For replacement parts, we recommend genuine Therma-Tru weatherstripping and thresholds whenever possible. Aftermarket equivalents exist for hinge sets and strike plates, and some are fine, but we won’t put a soft aftermarket sweep on a Therma-Tru door; the Florida sun and rain will chew through it in eighteen months and you’ll be calling us again. If the part touches weather, we use OEM.

Signs Your Therma-Tru Door Installation Is Failing

  • Drag marks on the threshold or a door that needs a shoulder to close. This usually means the hinge screws have stripped out of the jamb or the slab has settled. In South Miami’s humidity, the frame can also swell just enough to bind. Tightening the hinge screws is a band-aid; the real fix is longer screws into the framing or re-shimming the jamb.
  • Visible daylight around the edges when the door is closed. Sunlight gaps mean the weatherstripping has compressed or the door is out of square. You’re losing air-conditioned air through those gaps, and that matters in South Miami’s summer, where your AC is already working hard enough.
  • Condensation or fog between the glass panes on doors with decorative glass. Therma-Tru glass inserts are sealed at the factory. Once that seal breaks, the insert is done; there’s no honest repair. We pull the old insert and drop in a new one, usually in under two hours.
  • The deadbolt won’t throw without lifting or pulling on the door. This is a strike-plate alignment problem, and it’s the most common one we fix. Sometimes it’s just adjustment; sometimes the door has sagged and the whole hinge side needs re-hanging.
  • The door feels floppy or loose and bangs in the frame during storms. Loose or missing hinge screws, or a worn bottom sweep. South Miami afternoon thunderstorms push wind against exterior doors hard, and a door that rattles is letting water in at the threshold. We see this most often on east-facing entries.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Service Typical Price Range (Installed)
Weatherstripping set (sweep + jambs) $180 - $340
Threshold replacement $220 - $410
Hinge re-hang / strike plate alignment $150 - $280
Decorative glass insert replacement $350 - $700
Full pre-hung Therma-Tru door swap $850 - $2,400

These are South Miami installed prices, including the part and our labor. What moves the number: whether we’re repairing an existing slab or hanging a new pre-hung unit, whether the frame itself is still square, and what glass package your door carries. We give a written, line-item price before any work starts, and that price doesn’t change unless we find hidden damage behind the frame and you approve the extra work first. Ed Winslow’s name is on the invoice. Every Therma-Tru installation we do carries our Done Right Promise: if it’s not done right, we come back and make it right. No fine print, no time limit.

DIY or Call Us?

Some Therma-Tru maintenance you can safely handle yourself: tightening a loose hinge screw, cleaning the weatherstripping, checking that the sweep isn’t torn. That’s honest homeowner territory. But we recommend against pulling a Therma-Tru slab off its hinges or attempting a threshold replacement on your own. These doors are heavier than most people expect, the hinges are under load the whole time, and if you drop the slab you’re looking at a cracked fiberglass shell and a full replacement instead of a simple repair. We’ve also been called in to fix floors scratched up by DIY slab removals more times than Ed can count. If you’re at all unsure, call (850) 930-1813. We’ll walk through what you’re seeing and tell you straight whether it’s a weekend project or a job for us.

What Neighbors Say About Winslow Windows & Doors

★★★★

"The installation was clean and the windows are beautiful. The factory took about six weeks to deliver the units, which Ed told me upfront, but living behind plywood-framed openings in the meantime still tested my patience."

GGuadalupe Zamorano
★★★★★

"Our insurance agent asked for the wind mitigation paperwork and Ed had the whole file ready the day the job closed, every opening photographed. The premium conversation went very differently this year."

OOdessa Fairbanks
★★★★★

"We sat out a hurricane behind the windows Ed put in. The gusts threw a neighbour's trampoline down the street and the loudest thing in our house was the kettle. I rang him after to say thank you and he answered his own phone, same as always."

TThaddeus Okonkwo
★★★★★

"Three big companies quoted us and every one sent a salesman with a leased truck. Ed turned up in a truck with his own name on the door, quoted less, and his crew were the same faces on day one and day nine."

YYolanda Betancourt
★★★★★

"A tile roof repair and new windows from the same company meant one crew, one permit runner, and nobody blaming the other trade. Ed checked the roof work himself before the tarp came off."
