How CGI Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

• Sentinel Series sill rot at the weep holes. The CGI Sentinel line is everywhere in South Miami, and we’ve pulled more of these sills than any other. The weep channels that are supposed to drain rainwater can clog with salt, dirt, and pollen during our wet season, and once water sits against the aluminum sill for a year or two, you get pitting and eventually rot where the frame meets the stucco. The fix is rarely a whole new window; we clean the channels, treat the corrosion, and re-flash the sill pan. If the sill is too far gone, we replace just that section before reinstalling the sash.
• Estate Collection seal failure at the insulated glass unit. The Estate Collection is a beautiful window, but its IGUs are sealed at the factory and once that seal fails, South Miami humidity fogs the glass from the inside. You can’t fix a fogged IGU; you replace the glass pack. We measure, order the replacement from CGI, and reinstall using a secondary seal so the new unit is protected from coastal moisture, which is a step a lot of installers skip because it takes an extra day.
• Targa Series roller shoe wear on horizontal sliders. Targa sliders carry their weight on nylon roller shoes, and after eight to ten years in South Miami heat, those shoes flatten out. The window gets stiff, then starts jumping the track, then won’t lock. We replace the roller assemblies with OEM-grade parts and re-align the track, which brings the window back to factory-smooth. This is a repair we see weekly and it’s a fraction of the cost of a new slider.
• Proline Plus frame twist on large fixed windows. The Proline Plus fixed units are rated for high wind loads, but on installations where the original rough opening wasn’t square (common in South Miami homes built before the 2000s), the frame gets torqued and the laminated glass starts to bind. We don’t force those windows into bad openings. We plane and shim the opening, re-flash it, and set the frame so it’s dead level before we anchor it. That’s the difference between a window that lasts 20 years and one that cracks its own glass in three.
• Single-hung balance system failure on older CGI custom units.
